Team Spotlight: Mindy Booth

Stephanie

After spending most of her career as a school-based Occupational Therapist in Minnesota, Mindy, who is certified as a MA, OTR/L, was ready for a change. Having reached a point where she was very strong clinically, Mindy felt her skillset would be better utilized in a mentorship position—an aspect of her experience that she has always enjoyed. She first took a travel therapy position in Virginia with another agency and was subsequently selected as their OT/PT supervisor when they expanded into New York City.

This path led Mindy to Tandym Group in 2015. Joining the company as the Senior Director of Clinical Services where she was responsible for direct service as well as supervision, she quickly recognized the need for a robust professional development program. Due to her efforts, the therapists we work with now have access to accredited education courses, setting-specific training and mentorship, networking events, clinical resources, and on-call support.

Finding her ever-expanding role at Tandym Group very motivating and rewarding, Mindy was happy to share her growth story:

On why she joined Tandym

I was in a supervisory role with another firm but didn’t feel the position allowed for growth or fully utilized my skills. When I decided to look for a new opportunity that would, I was specifically seeking a position with a firm that was focused on quality, integrity, and consistent communication.

I had many offers, but it quickly became clear that Tandym Group could provide me with what I was looking for. I was most impressed with my recruiter’s professionalism and the fact that I was vetted by both a Senior Managing Director and the President of the Healthcare division. This made me feel that Tandym was seeking the best fit for the position.

On what she loves about working here

I love the people I work with and the culture at Tandym Health. Our leadership team cares about their employees and is always available to speak with you about any questions or concerns. There is also significant opportunity for growth in all divisions. While I am responsible for my own success, I know that I have the support and resources to grow professionally. This motivates me to identify ways I can support others and learn from the expertise of those around me.

On what she enjoys most about her job

Coming from a clinical background, I have learned about the business aspects of healthcare on the job. I like that I have the opportunity to mentor new grads, develop programs to support ongoing clinical education, work with clients, and partner with universities across the country.

Recently I have begun to contribute to business development, seeking new clients and leveraging my clinical experience to help our therapy division grow. I’ve been able to expand my role and have always received the support I need to be successful. After a full career as a practitioner, it’s invigorating to use my skills in a non-traditional role.

On what she feels sets her apart from others in her field

Much of my career was spent in a rural area. Because there were fewer professionals in my field working at a given location, I was continually called on to address unique and challenging clinical situations. I’ve always been passionate about gaining new skills and this background pushed me to explore all aspects of my field. This has enabled me to collaborate with our clients and therapy professionals, while comfortably supporting our team regardless of setting or specialty area.

While I do miss direct clinical care, I know I can make a greater impact on the rehab profession through an administrative, business development, mentorship, and clinical education role.
