5 New + Creative Virtual Volunteer Opportunities

Catherine

With the holidays here, many of us are looking for new and creative ways to give back! Since volunteering may look different this year, you may not know how and where to get involved. The good news is that you don’t need to give up on volunteering! Many charitable organizations have adapted to this new landscape, and are offering virtual volunteer opportunities for those looking to give back.

Whether you’re under a mandated quarantine or practicing social distancing, virtual volunteer opportunities are a safe way to spend your free time and support your community during these challenging times. Looking to get involved? Here are five favorite virtual volunteer opportunities from Execu|Search employees:

Career Village

Are you the kind of person who enjoyed your school’s Career Day growing up? If so, consider volunteering with Career Village! As a virtual volunteer, you’ll be connected with students looking for career advice and mentorship. Not only will this help you build a strong bond with the next generation of professionals, but having mentorship experience on your resume will make you stand out the next time you’re looking for a job! Safe Horizons

Safe Horizons, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing assistance to victims of abuse and violent crime, is offering virtual volunteer opportunities through their Storytime project. With this initiative, the organization is looking for volunteers to record themselves reading children’s books, which will then be shared with children living at their shelter.

United Way Women

United Way Women, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping women in need, is currently looking for volunteers to assist with multiple projects and programs. Some of their virtual volunteer opportunities include signing up to provide gifts for families in need and preparing food kits. Additionally, they are also looking for volunteers (who will be trained) to offer tax-preparation services.

Pen Pals For Seniors

Few groups have been hit as hard by the pandemic as senior citizens. With isolation measures in place to keep seniors safe, organizations like Love For Our Elders are asking for volunteers to write postcards and send video messages to those who may not be able to see their loved ones for the holidays this year. Whether you decide to send a letter to a senior or send them a personalized video message, reaching out during such a difficult time will brighten their day!

Dress For Success

Interested in being a professional mentor or providing career services like mock interviews and resume reviews? If so, consider signing up to volunteer with Dress For Success! With COVID-19 halting clothing donation drives, the organization is looking for volunteers who can provide professional help and mentorship to women looking to enter the workforce. This can also be a great opportunity to build connections with people in other industries, as well as form long-lasting professional relationships!
